Southwest Regional Police are asking residents and store owners to be alert for any suspicious use or purchase of drain cleaner or toilet bowl cleaner, which are believed to be used to make homemade bombs that have been left in mailboxes in Long Branch, Washington County.

Five bombs, consisting of a plastic bottle containing a blue liquid, have been left in mailboxes in the borough since early July. Three of the bombs have exploded. Nobody has been injured.

Police are asking that people contact them if they notice anyone purchasing large amounts of drain cleaner or toilet bowl cleaner or people who wouldn't ordinarily buy those substances are making the purchases.

If store owners notice these products stolen from their shelves or if parents notice them missing from their homes, they should also contact police.

Police have warned that the devices are highly dangerous and can maim or kill.

Anyone with information or anyone who comes across a device should call the department at 724-929-8484 or call 911.
