Washington Township welcomes 2 businesses

George Guido

Two new businesses will be coming to the township.

Supervisors on Thursday night approved Tailspin Hobbies to be located in an upper garage area at 4498 Route 66. Mountain Laurel Mercantile can locate at the Calinda Complex on Route 380.

Both businesses received change of use approvals at their respective locations.

Tailspin is a retail establishment open six days a week while Mountain Laurel Mercantile is an Internet-only business.

Supervisors also gave the OK to Vincent Goodiski to store implements related to swimming pool construction at a residential location on Grange Drive.

Goodiski is affiliated with Bernie's Pool Service of Trafford. He intends to store a dump truck, a trailer and a Bobcat and accessories.

Temporary storage containers at another home on Grange Drive owned by Goodiski will be removed at a later date.

A modular home will be installed at the new location where the equipment will be stored. Goodiski intends to live there.

There was no public opposition to Goodiski's proposal.

Anthony Manifest of Four Brothers Supply, located near the corner of Routes 66 and 819, received approval to store three portable trailers at its location, which specializes in recreational vehicles.

Two merchandise trailers and a trailer for barbecue sandwich sales will be placed on the property, provided neither is located within PennDOT's 40-foot right of way.

All three trailers will spend time on the road during the summer months at various carnivals and festivals.

In other business

• Residents were reminded about the opening day ceremonies for the Kiski Valley Baseball/Softball Association Saturday at 9 a.m. at Kunkle Park and the Kiski Astronomers stargazing party from 8 p.m. to midnight, also at Kunkle Park.

• Bids will be sought to seal-coat Maiole Road and, possibly, other roads.

Bids will be opened on June 11.

Costs and the number of roads to be seal-coated will be dependent on the price of oil when the bids are determined.

• Dave Bracken, of Dave's Recycling, explained his program of accepting recycled materials such as tires, batteries, computers and household appliances.

Bracken would collect the materials at a site determined by supervisors. When the items are sold to a recycler, Bracken would then convey half the proceeds to the township.

Supervisors said they would consider the matter.

• Supervisors will sell a 2008 Crown Victoria police car to neighboring Bell Township for $2,000.

The other bidder of the car was Grace Quality Used Cars of Morrisville, Bucks County.
