WASHINGTON -- A family was not at home when a fire swept through their mobile home along the Adrian Sherrett Road late Tuesday evening. The blaze broke out shortly before 11:30 p.m. at the home of Tim Grates at 321 Adrian Sherrett Road about one mile north of Adrian. Washington Fire Chief Pete Bowser identified Grates as the owner. Bowser said he believed two adults lived there but had no other information about the family. Bowser said the fire has been ruled as accidental. It started in a back bedroom but the cause is unknown, he said. The fire was reported by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the single-wide older trailer. Fire crews from Washington, Sugarcreek, East Franklin and Worthington-West Franklin were called at 11:23 p.m. "It was a quick response for the time of night," said Sugarcreek Fire Chief LeRoy Myers. "Firefighters were in the front door with water flowing within minutes." Bowser said the mobile home was a total loss. The fire was contained to the one room but the remainder of the interior of the home had extensive heat and smoke damage, he said. The structure still is standing. The family's possessions were destroyed in the fire.
