WCCC summer boot camps allow career exploration
Summer break is not the time to kick back and take it easy, according to Westmoreland County Community College.
For students in grades seven through 12, it’s the time to explore college and career options through a series of one-day and week-long boot camps at the WCCC Youngwood campus.
The Career Education & Exploration Boot Camps start on June 11 and continue through the end of the month. The college also is holding a series of week-long sports camps/clinics in June.
WCCC faculty teach the majority of the boot camps, which will be held in college classrooms and labs. Students can explore careers through hands-on activities and demonstrations.
Scholarships are available for some of the camps. Boot camp scholarships cover 100 percent of camp fees and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to students who express financial need. Scholarships are not available for the sports camps.
Week-long camps for 7th-12th graders include:
• Health professions
• 3-D printed dragster
• Exploring business
• Bake it to the limit
• Design a dream home
• The world of Harry Potter
• Portrait drawing from life
One-day camps for ages 10-18 include:
• Chemistry exploration & experimentation
• Biology exploration & experimentation
• Physics & engineering
Sports camps/clinics for ages 7-16 include:
