We don't want it
The Hempfield Township supervisors recently announced their support for the proposed maglev into and through Hempfield Township (" Supervisors support maglev plan ," April 23).
The supervisors were elected as representatives of the people of Hempfield Township. How loud do we have to speak as to the high rate of opposition to this project being considered in our communityâ¢
Obviously the supervisors are not doing their homework before they decide to support a major project affecting our homes and peaceful way of life in Hempfield Township. For them I present some simple facts:
The maglev system has been under development for more than 30 years, yet there are no working commercial maglev systems in the world today. The maglev is tremendously expensive to build, operate and maintain.
One of the major concerns of the maglev engineers is the amount of magnetic radiation that is introduced into the passenger compartments of the operating system (a possible cause of cancer).
Our representatives were supposed to be qualified and have enough intellect to represent us. Obviously they do not.
