Survivors of Hurricane Katrina are turning to the Web to share information on flooding in New Orleans, plotting comments on maps provided by Google Inc. A Web site created by programmer Greg Stoll, www.scipionus.com , allows New Orleans residents to add markers with flooding information on interactive maps from Mountain View, California-based Google. “Water almost up to the rooftop of this Rite Aid,” said one of the postings for the corner of Robert E. Lee Boulevard and Paris Avenue on the shores of Lake Pontchatrain. “Completely under water,” reads a post for the New Orleans Lakefront Airport. Google also made available images of the city on the Web site for Google Earth, software that allows users to magnify satellite images of buildings and landscapes. The images can be downloaded to users’ computers and viewed using the Google Earth software.
