Two Fayette County baseball players are on the cusp of playing for a Major League Baseball team. Dawson's Clint Weibl has spent the beginning of this baseball season playing for the Long Island Ducks, a team in professional baseball's Atlantic League. With the Ducks, Weibl posted a 2-1 record with a 3.55 ERA. However, Weibl's time at Long Island was short-lived as earlier this week, his contract was purchased by the Milwaukee Brewers. Weibl was immediately signed to Milwaukee's Class AAA team, the Indianapolis Indians. Weibl has started out well with Indianapolis. Through Thursday, he has thrown two scoreless innings, while giving up just one hit. Weibl last played at Class AAA in 2003 with the Memphis Redbirds, the top farm team of the St. Louis Cardinals. = Although Weibl no longer pitching for Memphis, the Redbirds still maintain a local connection as Uniontown's Jason Bowers is a regular on the Memphis infield. Playing mostly at second base, Bowers has a .294 batting average and sports a .413 slugging percentage. Bowers has scored 21 runs and has nine RBI. He has 42 hits, including eight doubles, three triples and a homer to go along with three stolen bases. = A little closer to home, Uniontown graduate and Dunbar native Jory Coughenour is pitching for the Washington Wild Things in the Frontier League. Coughenour spent parts of last season with the Round Rock Express in the Texas League and Salem of the Carolina League. Through two starts this season, Coughenour has compiled an 0-1 record with a 4.63 ERA. He has given up six earned runs in 12 innings pitched. He has walked three and struck out 12. Opponents are hitting .227 against him. = Another Fayette County pitcher trying to climb the ladder towards the majors is Brownsville graduate Mike Patitucci. Patitucci was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles last year and is pitching with the club's Class A affiliate, the Delmarva Shorebirds of the South Atlantic League. He is 2-1 with three saves and a 3.43 ERA. Patitucci has surrendered eight earned runs in 21 innings pitched with 25 strikeouts and 18 walks. = One guy that has made it to the show, and has spent quite a bit of time there is Uniontown native Terry Mulholland. Mulholland is pitching for the Minnesota Twins. He has an 0-1 mark with a 4.43 ERA in 14 appearances. He has walked eight and struck out 13.
