Preparation work for today’s implosion of the Wendel Road Bridge resulted in a loss of power for more than 1,100 Westmoreland County residents Saturday afternoon. “Crews doing prep work for the bridge demolition got into one of the wires and knocked it over,” said Mike Grandillo, Allegheny Power spokesman. Grandillo said the outage occurred at 2:45 p.m., causing the loss of power for 1,115 customers in Irwin, Greensburg, Adamsburg and Jeannette. All customers had power restored by 6:15 p.m. Affected areas were:

Irwin — Arona Road, Wendel Road, Renaissance Drive, Rembrandt Circle and Robinhood Drive. Adamsburg — Bucktown Road, Browns Ferry Road, Edna Road and Main Street. Greensburg — Monkey Wrench Road and Harry Long Road. Jeannette — Route 30 west, Blackberry Lane, Dove Lane and Turner Lane.

The replacement of the bridge is part of a rehabilitation project and $110 million expansion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Irwin and New Stanton interchanges. A new bridge is expected to be open in early September.
