A 36-year-old West Newton man died Thursday in a one-car accident along Route 136 in South Huntingdon.

The Westmoreland County Coroner’s office identified the victim as Erik D. Povisils of Hayden Lane, who was pronounced dead at 1:42 a.m.

According to state police reports, Povisils’ eastbound vehicle crossed the centerline, drove off the north side of the road, up an embankment and flipped over. Authorities said the vehicle then struck a tree.

Police said Povisils was ejected from the vehicle. Excessive speed was a factor in the crash, police said.

Deputy Coroner Tim O’Donnell said Povisils died of blunt-force trauma to his head, neck and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:25 a.m.

Smith Funeral Home in Mantua, N.J., is in charge of arrangements.
