West Shamokin's girls volleyball team avenged its only Section 1-A loss Tuesday by sweeping Greensburg Central Catholic, 25-18, 25-23, 25-16, and sending the visitiing Centurions to their first section loss in the process.
"It was a really good, solid performance," West Shamokin coach Dan Spencer said. "I wanted to battle and compete point for point, and I thought we did that. I thought all points were contested well by both sides."
Paige Baker led the Wolves win with eight kills, and Alyssa Skamai has six kills, Katy Vicini had five and Laina Walker had four.
"We hit from just about everywhere," Spencer said. "Our balance was good."
The teams are tied at 7-1 atop the section standings with two section matches remaining for each team. They tied for the section championship last year, along with Elderton.
Kittanning 3, Valley 0 -- Kittanning's Leah McKelvey had seven kills and 12 digs to help the Wildcats sweep Valley, 25-21, 25-18, 25-11. Sara Ohm also had a big night for Kittanning, contributing six kills and 12 digs. Lacey Hohl had five kills and five blocks, and Brittany Adams had 14 assists. Kittanning is 10-1 overall and 9-1 in Section 6-AA.
