Western Pa. Humane Society offers flexible pricing to spur cat, kitten adoptions
The Western Pennsylvania Humane Society has so many cats, it will let those interested in adoption pay whatever they want for adoption, officials said on Wednesday.
“We are above capacity, and hundreds of cats and kittens are still coming in each week,” said David Janusek, executive director of the North Side shelter. “Just yesterday, 35 cats and kittens were turned in. … Since Oct. 1, we have seen over 30 cats and kittens every single day.”
The name-your-price special will last through the weekend, officials said.
Adopters must have valid identification and complete an application. They must prove they own a home or, if living in a rented residence, that they are allowed to have a pet, officials said.
“We want to find these animals homes,” said Donna Bucek, director of animal services. “All normal adoption guidelines will be strictly followed, except the adoption fee will be whatever someone wants to pay.”
Humane Society officials are seeking foster families who can care for cats or kittens until they can be adopted.
All adopted felines are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and tested for feline leukemia, officials said. For details, visit wpahumane.org.
