Westmoreland high school roundup: Mularski fans 20 as Yough tops rival Greensburg Salem
Macy Mularski struck out 20 and allowed just one hit as No. 1 Yough earned a 7-1 win over Greensburg Salem in a Section 4-AAA softball game Friday afternoon.
Cassidy Pearch went 2 for 3 with a double and home run, and Allie Harvey and Hannah Bach had two hits each for the Cougars (9-0, 6-0).
Maggie Kallock homered for Greensburg Salem (4-3, 3-2).
Derry 7, Uniontown 6 — Chelsea Bisi had two doubles, and Madi Johnston hit a walk-off sacrifice fly as Derry (2-5, 2-4) won in Section 4-AAA.
Franklin Regional 8, Plum 5 — Franklin Regional rallied from a 4-0 deficit to win a Section 2-AAAA game. The Panthers (7-2, 6-0) scored five runs in the top of the fifth to take the lead.
A two-run single from Brooke Zanotto tied the score at 4-4, and Mallory Halleck’s three-run homer broke the deadlock.
Chrissy Kemerer led Franklin Regional with three hits.
Plum No. 4 hitter Gabby Fischetti had a pair of home runs. Hannah Adamski added an RBI single for the Mustangs (6-3, 4-2).
Belle Vernon 7, Waynesburg 0 — Penn State recruit Bailey Parshall tossed a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts as Belle Vernon (8-4, 4-2) won a Section 3-AAA game. Kourtney Gavotorta had a two-run single for the Leopards.
Hempfield 11, Kiski Area 2 — Morgan Ryan struck out seven in four innings, and Kaylee Bloom and Madison Stoner had extra-base hits as No. 1 Hempfield (6-0, 6-0) won in Section 1-AAAA.
Alexa Nagy hit a two-run home run for Kiski Area (2-7, 1-5).
Latrobe 9, Armstrong 0 — Morgan Schweizer hit a two-run home run, and Meredith Carr allowed two hits and struck out five to lead Latrobe (7-1, 5-0) to a Section 1-AAAA victory.
Penn-Trafford 8, Albert Gallatin 0 — Kaitlyn Auel threw a no-hitter with three strikeouts as Penn-Trafford (7-2, 5-2) won a Section 1-AAAA game.
Megan Marasti, Sarah Koscho, Hannah Dobrinick and Marissa Bacco all had two hits for the Warriors.
Indiana 9, Burrell 2 — Lauren Bertig struck out 12 and allowed six hits, leading Indiana (7-1) to a nonsection victory.
Brianna Dillon had three hits, including two doubles, for the Little Indians.
Hempfield 8, Albert Gallatin 1 — In Section 2-AAAA, Mitch Golden had two doubles, and Jake Rife was the winning pitcher as Hempfield (7-3, 5-0) won its seventh straight game.
Fox Chapel 1, Central Catholic 0 — Zach Burkart went 2 for 3, including a run-scoring triple in the third inning, as the Foxes (6-2, 3-1) won in Section 3-AAAA.
Franklin Regional 13, Allderdice 3 (5 inn.) — Alex Frey scattered seven hits with seven strikeouts as Franklin Regional (6-4, 4-0) won in Section 4-AAAA.
Mt. Pleasant 10, Derry 1 — Jeremy Paul had four hits to carry Mt. Pleasant (3-6, 2-2) to a Section 2-AAA victory. Max Pritts scattered four hits in three innings and earned the win.
Alex Ulery took the loss for Derry (1-6, 1-3).
Yough 6, Indiana 5 — Shane Fajt and Matt Huss doubled, and T.J. Lux allowed three hits in 5 1⁄3 innings as Yough (6-2, 3-0) won in Section 2-AAA.
Belle Vernon 12, Ringgold 3 (5 inn.) — Justin Ivill had three hits and knocked in five runs as No. 2 Belle Vernon (7-2, 4-2) won a Section 4-AAA game.
Greensburg CC 22, Monessen 1 — Tommy Pellis had four hits and three RBIs, and Neal McDermott homered as No. 1 Greensburg Central Catholic (6-1, 3-0) won in Section 2-A.
J.P. Pellis allowed three hits and had six strikeouts in four innings.
Serra Catholic 5, Jeannette 3 — Ben Davis allowed three to guide No. 2 Serra Catholic (9-0, 3-0) to a Section 2-A win. Jeannette (2-3, 1-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but fell short.
