Father, son from Jeannette among 20 charged in state police drug probe
An 18-month investigation by the state police narcotics unit in Greensburg resulted in arrest warrants being issued for 20 accused drug dealers and the arrests of 12 people Wednesday throughout central Westmoreland County, including a father and son from Jeannette.
Jermayne M. Ramsey, 42, and his son, also named Jermayne M. Ramsey, 23, both of Jeannette, were arraigned Wednesday on charges of possession and drug delivery of crack cocaine and cocaine.
The elder Ramsey’s arrest stems from an alleged undercover drug delivery of crack cocaine on July 27, and the younger Ramsey’s arrest is the result of an alleged cocaine purchase on Aug. 7, according to court documents filed before District Judge Joseph DeMarchis. Court records indicate the undercover drug buys took place in Jeannette.
The elder Ramsey was ordered to the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post $10,000 bail, while DeMarchis ordered the younger Ramsey to jail after he failed to post $25,000 bond, according to online dockets.
State police spokesman Trooper Steve Limani said those arrested were mostly street- and mid-level dealers.
“This is the culmination of an 18-month investigation involving hand-to-hand drug buys with undercover officers and informants,” said state police Cpl. Ronald Zona.
Zona said the investigation focused on the Jeannette area and the central portion of the county. Those charged were dealing a wide variety of drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl, heroin and marijuana.
Among those charged include Jeremy R. Bogle, 29, of Jeannette with distributing heroin and crack cocaine; a 17-year-old juvenile cited to juvenile court with delivering heroin and crack cocaine; Crystal M. Kavran, 32, of Arnold with intent to deliver fenanyl; Krystal L. Trapana, 37, of Greensburg with possession with intent to deliver heroin; and Wendy J. Taylor, 43, of Clairton with possession with intent to deliver heroin in Jeannette.
Nicholas R. Beck, 34, of Greensburg is charged with possession with intent to deliver multiple drugs; Wendy DeChiccis, 47, of Greensburg with possession with intent to deliver heroin; Brian V. Jones, 36, of Grapeville with operating an alleged marijuana grow operation; Larry E. Ramsey, 44, of Jeannette but currently an inmate at SCI -Somerset, with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine; and Tracy L. Thomas, 38, of Jeannette with attempted drug delivery of heroin and crack cocaine.
Others charged include Christopher J. Jackson, 22, of Greensburg with possession with intent to deliver crack cocaine; Alan M. Shick, 26, of Greensburg with possession with intent to deliver heroin; Erica S. Krautz, 36, of Greensburg, with conspiracy to deliver controlled substance; Ronald J. Krautz III, 33, of North Huntingdon with possession with intent to deliver heroin; and Rasheed Gordon, 26, of Jeannette with possession with intent to deliver heroin.
Authorities did not release the names of three others charged because they are considered flight risks.
In addition to several state police units participating in serving the warrants, other agencies involved included the U.S. Marshal’s fugitive task force and deputies from the Westmoreland County Sheriff’s Department.
