Fayette man jailed after argument with teen in Scottdale, police say
Scottdale Police allege a Fayette County man assaulted his girlfriend’s adult daughter and damaged the front door of a home when he threw a small safe during an argument Sunday.
Daniel J. Barnhart, 31, of South Connellsville, was arraigned Monday before acting District Judge Jason Buczak on charges of harassment, simple assault and criminal mischief filed. Police said the incident occurred at Barnhart’s girlfriend’s residence on the 900 block of Mulberry Street in Scottdale about 10:40 a.m. Sunday.
Buczak ordered Barnhart held in the Westmoreland County Prison after he failed to post $10,000 bond.
Officer Matthew Zelenak reported that the incident occurred after Barnhart’s girlfriend’s daughter complained that she discovered some personal jewelry was missing from her bedroom.
Zelenak reported in court documents that the teen told him that Barnhart “first head-butted her” and later “slammed her into a wall.”
The teen was able to free herself and fled while her mother telephoned 911.
Zelenak reported when he arrived he was initially unable to gain entry into the home because the front door was damaged by the safe.
