Former Latrobe mayor ordered to pay former business partners $692K
The former owner of the Inn at Mountain View in Unity owes nearly $700,000 to his former business partners, according to court documents filed Wednesday.
James and Daniel Snyder, brothers from Upper St. Clair, contend Tom Marflak, the former mayor of Latrobe, and his wife, Amy, defaulted on payments required by a partnership agreement signed in 2010.
The Marflaks purchased the landmark hotel near Route 30 from the Snyders in 2009 after it had been shuttered by a previous owner.
A portion of the facility was demolished, and two newer wings of the hotel were reopened when the Marflaks took control of the property.
The Marflaks never made any of the monthly payments owed to the Snyders, according to documents filed in Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court.
Andrew Venturella, the attorney for the Snyders, declined to comment on the case, in which a judgment was entered against the Marflaks for $692,000.
It occurs less than a year after the Marflaks lost title to the hotel for defaulting on a Small Business Administration loan for $2 million issued through Enterprise Bank.
The bank, which furnished the loan to the Marflaks in 2010, purchased the hotel property at a sheriff’s sale in July.
Officials for the Hampton-based bank could not be reached for comment.
An employee at the hotel said the facility is open and accepting reservations.
Scott Avolio, the attorney for Tom Marflak, said his client and wife moved to Orlando this summer.
Attempts to contact the Marflaks were unsuccessful.
In 2012, Tom Marflak pleaded guilty to theft for stealing $52,000 from Wingate Inn in Unity, where he had worked as a manager.
Marflak repaid the money and was sentenced to serve two years on probation and three months on house arrest, court records show.
In 2005, Marflak became the first Republican elected as mayor of Latrobe in 40 years. He served one term.
