Second suspect charged in Hempfield Sonic Drive-In heist
A second man was arraigned Monday morning in connection with an armed robbery at Sonic Drive-In in Hempfield.
State police allege that Christian Duvall, 21, of Luxor, fired two shots — one in the air and the second at a bystander — during the robbery Thursday at the Route 30 restaurant.
Duvall was lodged Monday in the Westmoreland County Prison on $100,000 bail.
State police were called to the restaurant around 11:20 p.m. Thursday after two employees were robbed at gunpoint in the parking lot by three men wearing masks. The suspects took the night deposit bag and a victim’s cellphone before fleeing, according to an affidavit. No one was injured by the gunfire.
Investigators used the cellphone to track down Julian Ragins, 19, of Greenville, Mercer County, at a location in Hempfield Township.
Ragins, who also is being held on $100,000 bond in the county jail, identified Duvall as the person who fired the shots, according to an affidavit.
Both men are charged with conspiracy, aggravated assault and theft. Ragins faces an additional robbery charge. His preliminary hearing is set for Friday. Duvall’s hearing is set for July 7.
Police have arrest warrants for two other suspects based on Ragins’ statement to investigators. Anthony Casson, 21, of Pittsburgh and Ruffsdale, is charged with the same offenses as Duvall. Police believe he used to work at the restaurant. Casson was charged Monday in connection with several thefts from vehicles at Laurel Highlands Campground in Donegal Township.
Brandon Charles Fleeger, 21, of Hempfield, is charged with conspiracy. Police found Ragins and items they believe were used in the robbery at Fleeger’s home, according to an affidavit.
