Where’s my refund?

Businesses in the township should inform their employees of this exemption.

In a recent article about the local services tax increase in Buffalo Township (a $30 tax on anyone who works in the township, regardless of his place of residence) there was mention of an exemption for people earning less than $12,000 yearly.

At my work, this exemption affects four workers. I called the township office and was told to contact the township tax collector. Yes, there is an exemption and proof of payment of the tax and income (pay sub or W-2) had to be sent to them. Being a township resident, the tax office already has proof of my income, as I pay wage tax there, but I sent the required information. They can adjust back only three years.

I was told any refunds will be made after the first of next year. The refund will only be for $25, as $5 had already been sent to the school district. I still don't know how that money will be refunded.

If this affects me, how many others here or from other areas have been overtaxed?

Businesses in the township should inform their employees of this exemption. My husband has been a volunteer fireman for 40 years so I'm not against helping them, but no one should be taxed illegally.

As for Mr. Haven's comment about the $22 increase — the cost of pizza — maybe he doesn't realize how tight some folks' budgets are. Twenty-two dollars could pay for gas in the car or for a prescription.

I, for one, would like a prompt, full refund.
