Whitaker man charged with drug dealing resulting in death
A Whitaker man sold synthetic opioids in August that caused the death of another person, federal prosecutors say.
Allegheny County police arrested Justin Thornton, 32, on Aug. 13, charging him with a dozen counts including drug possession and resisting arrest, according to state court records.
A federal grand jury Tuesday indicted Thornton for the distribution of acetylfentanyl and fentanyl on Aug. 7 and 8 that resulted in the death of a person only identified as “A.N.” in federal court records. The grand jury also indicted him for the Aug. 13 possession of acetylfentanyl and fentanyl with intent to distribute those two drugs plus heroin, cocaine and crack.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office declined to provide further details.
Thornton is being held at the Allegheny County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 bond, according to state court records. His attorney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
