Officials at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield on Friday closed a mailroom at Penn Avenue Place, Downtown, after a worker opened a piece of mail containing a white substance.

Highmark spokeswoman Jean Edwards said the envelope was taken away by authorities and is being analyzed. She said the worker who handled the envelope was examined at a local hospital as a precaution.

Edwards said the mailroom was cleaned and will remain closed until Monday.
