Hot eats, cool treats. And now, free wireless Internet.

Lynn’s Dairy Queen on East Crawford Avenue in Connellsville Township is offering Wi-Fi for customers with wireless-equipped portable computers.

Signs outside identify the Internet hot spot.

“There’s a need for business people to have Internet access,” said Judy Lynn-Craig, owner. “When I travel, often I look for a hot spot.”

So far, Connellsville Township is the only one of her Dairy Queens with wireless Internet, “but my managers at North Union, South Union and Mt. Pleasant are asking for it.”

Lynn-Craig approached Armstrong about wireless.

“They were already our Internet service provider,” she said. “We’ve been tossing the idea around for some time.”

The service began in February.

“We had a good month,” Lynn-Craig said. “People will eat their meal, go online and have dessert.”

Carl Rose, general manager of Armstrong, was pleased that Dairy Queen wanted the service.

“They wanted Wi-Fi in an area where people could eat and access the Internet for business and for research,” he said.

Rose said Armstrong has provided Wi-Fi at the Scottdale and Mt. Pleasant gazebos.

“We didn’t have it in this area. Besides allowing people a chance to go online in a public location, it also introduces them to our Internet product,” he said.

Armstrong has provided instructions to access its Zoom Internet at each table at Dairy Queen.

“We look for ways for giving back to the community,” Rose said. “It helps the restaurant out and makes the community feel better about itself, to be on the leading edge.”

Rose said that with Geibel Catholic Middle/High School, Connellsville Area High School and Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, all nearby, he expects a number of students to take advantage of the service.

“Aside from students and business travelers, we wanted the community to have a place to go to have a sandwich and use the Internet,” he said.
