Wild Things lose 2-1
Richmond starter Rich Jelovic scattered three hits and struck out seven through six innings to earn his fifth win of the season, as the Roosters (26-16) defeated the Washington Wild Things, 2-1, on Sunday in Richmond, Ind.
The Wild Things (25-17) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Brad Hensler hit his fifth home run of the season. Richmond scored an unearned run in the bottom of the second to tie the score.
The Roosters then took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Phil Williamson singled to score Jeremiah Klosterman.
Richmond pitchers Chad Sosebee, Matt Schweitzer and Bryan Heaston combined for three innings of scoreless relief with Heaston closing out the Wild Things in the ninth to earn his fourth save.
Jared Howton gave up two runs on six hits in 5 2 / 3 innings to suffer the loss, dropping his record to 5-2.
After losing two of three to the Roosters, the Wild Things travel to Kalamazoo to start a three-game series with the Kings today.
