A 23-year-old Mount Pleasant Township woman was killed Sunday morning when her car went out of control on Route 981 and crashed into a tree. When fire and emergency crews arrived at the scene of the 10:20 a.m. accident, they found Robin M. Long of Mount Pleasant, R.D. 1 (Weltytown), trapped in her 1988 Honda Accord. Efforts to revive the young woman failed, and she was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:10 p.m. by Westmoreland County Deputy Coroner Gerald Fritz. State police said Long was northbound on Route 981, about a half-mile north of the intersection with Route 819 in Mount Pleasant Township, when, shortly after traveling through an “S” curve, her car crossed the road and struck a large maple tree. Fritz said Long died of multiple blunt force injuries. Her vehicle had no air bags, he said. Police said she was not wearing a seatbelt. Long was a 1996 graduate of Mount Pleasant Area Senior High School. She was currently enrolled in classes at Business Careers Institute in Greensburg. Survivors include her parents, Lynda (Susco) Long Warren of Mount Pleasant, R.D. 1, and her father, James A. Long Jr. of Greensburg; two sisters and a brother. Fire and emergency crews from Hecla, Mount Pleasant, Norvelt and Kecksburg assisted state police at the accident scene.
