The Tarentum interchange (Exit 14) along northbound Route 28 will close for long-term reconstruction about 10 a.m. Tuesday.
PennDOT District 11 spokesman Jim Struzzi said crews will work on the segment around the clock through mid-September.
The work is part of a $7.7 million project to improve about 1.6 miles of Route 366 from the New Kensington side of the Tarentum Bridge to Bull Creek Road west of the Route 28 interchange in Fawn.
Jim Foringer, an assistant district executive for construction for PennDOT, said the overall project is about 30 percent complete and should be wrapped up in December.
Work at the base of Tarentum Bridge that is keeping the ramp from East Sixth Avenue closed likely will take another two to three weeks, Foringer said. The ramp initially was expected to reopen this week. But Foringer said it won't open until the first week of September.
PennDOT plans to resurface Tarentum Bridge as part of the project. That work could begin Oct. 1 and wrap up by mid-October, Foringer said.
The prime contractor is Golden Triangle Construction Co. of Imperial.
Golden Triangle project supervisor Jim Crowley wasn't available for comment.
