Emergency crews from South Greensburg were called Wednesday to a steel fabrication plant after a worker was pinned beneath a 1,500-pound steel beam.

Borough fire chief Eric Hardy said paramedics and firefighters received a call about 8:45 a.m. reporting the accident at Moore & Morford Inc., 1030 Broad St.

“We received a call that a man between 40 and 50 years old was trapped under a steel beam. His co-workers already had freed him when we arrived,” Hardy said.

“He was stabilized and transported by ambulance to Forbes Regional Hospital (in Monroeville),” Hardy said.

The worker’s identity was not released. His condition could not be determined.

Company officials did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
