A bald eagle rescured Feb. 1 in northern Michigan is released on Feb. 10. Its story has gone viral.

An eagle was grounded, but flies again thanks to volunteers at a northern Michigan wildlife rescue organization.

A volunteer for the Empire, Mich-based Wings of Wonder rescued a bald eagle Feb. 1 that was grounded on Lake Michigan with a nearly 8-inch ice ball frozen to its tail, according to a story in the Old Mission Gazette .

The ice was melted using warm water, and video of the bird’s rehabilitation and eventual release on Feb. 10 has gone viral, gaining the attention of the BBC and on social media .

The bird appears to enjoy the warm “bath” it had to melt the ice ball and upon its release it was greeted by two other eagles who joined it and the circled and flew away.
