The internet allows us to experience things — sometimes dangerous things — from a safe distance.

Thanks to live-streaming webcams, viewers can witness the power of Hurricane Florence without being a thrillseeking weather reporter on the scene.

Frying Pan Shoals Light Tower

This webcam is on a steel tower in the Atlantic Ocean.

Frying Pan Shoals Light Tower is a decommissioned lighthouse built on the ocean floor and rising above the water's surface 34 miles off the North Carolina coast. A pair of cameras, above and below the sea, are broadcasting Hurricane Florence to the world.
