After watching videotape of Charleroi's 2-2 boys' soccer tie at Monessen two weeks ago, the WPIAL Board of Control ruled at this week's monthly meeting that there was no deliberate or malicious intent by a Greyhound player to injure the Cougars' Josh Hanson, who had to be flown to a hospital after a facial injury.

It remains to be seen if Charleroi will appeal the ruling to the PIAA.

- The WPIAL football pairings meeting, scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Coraopolis, will be televised for the first time on Comcast.

The network is available to all Comcast digital subscribers on Channel 188 in traditional Comcast areas and channel 210 in former Adelphia areas.

- Don't be surprised if there's a whiteout at Joe Montana Stadium Friday for Ringgold's home football finale with Trinity.

Ringgold athletic director Lloyd Pricer is asking Rams' fans to wear white shirts to the contest.

Official Ringgold White Out shirts will also be sold at the game for $5.

- Remember the Mid-Atlantic Hockey League and the Mon Valley Thunder?

It was last November that the Thunder played their first game at the Rostraver Ice Garden in the new six-team Class A league.

The Thunder played 31 games before the league pulled the plug with seven weeks remaining because of financial problems with players not getting paid and small crowds at the games.

In May it became official that the Thunder wouldn't be back for the league's second season which was scheduled to start in November.

The league was set to go with seven teams next month with the defending league champion Indiana (Pa.) Ice Miners the lone holdover.

Michigan was going to have four teams with Ohio ad Indiana each fielding one entry.

In August, however, Andrew Haines sold league ownership to Andrew Miller, who wasn't enamored with the contract and took his Battle Creek franchise to the All American Hockey Association. Indiana's South Side Shooters also went to the AAHA.

Two months ago, the Mid-Atlantic League folded.

- One of the bright spots for the 2-4 Allegheny College football team is former Belle Vernon Area standout C.J. Bell at free safety.

Bell is the leading tackler for the Gators with 46 tackles including 21 solos.

Bell's younger brother, Zach, a sophomore, is a cornerback and special teams' starter.

- And thanks to Tom Evans, of Donora, who says the better a woman looks, the longer the man does!
