The editorial “All electronic tolling? It's a great idea” (Sept. 3 and TribLIVE.com) is full of it. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission uses E-ZPass to make money off users' accounts. The commission takes $35 up front from E-ZPass users to draw down when they use it.
Tell me what the difference is if I want to pay cash. It is the same four wheels, but the Trib's buddies on the commission don't get the $35 up front. “Commonwealth,” my arse; nothing “common” here.
I would have no argument if electronic tolls and cash tolls were the same. They are not, and that is not fair and not a great idea. The Trib is full of it.
