Regarding the news story “Turnpike Commission awards two Southern Beltway contracts” : Seriously? An estimated $550 million of taxpayer money would have to be spent to complete this project at this time of struggling economic recovery. And with 2,500 Pennsylvania bridges needing immediate and complete rehabilitation.

The eminently corrupt Turnpike Commission (see litany of indictments) has seen fit to raise turnpike tolls to offset its shortcomings while having the nerve to generate a half-billion-dollar project to cater, essentially, to a vastly underutilized airport (note floor scrubbers and moppers at 9 p.m., when other airports, like those in Charlotte, N.C., and Columbus, Ohio, are robustly busy and congested).

Sometimes the status quo is the best status. Sometimes it’s best to thoroughly think through where money is spent.
