"X-Files" star Gillian Anderson has married her long-time English boyfriend on an island off the African coast.

Anderson, 36, married documentary filmmaker Julian Ozanne in a secret ceremony Dec. 29 at a friend's beach home on Lamu's Shella island, off Kenya's Indian Ocean coast, People magazine reported.

The simple ceremony, attended by immediate family and a small number of close friends, included hymns sung in Swahili by a Kenyan choir.

Anderson's agent would only confirm the pair had tied the knot and gave few details.

The Chicago-born actress is best known for her nine-year role as agent Dana Scully on the sci-fi television series. More recently she played Lily Bart in 2000's "The House of Mirth," an adaptation of Edith Wharton's novel, which earned her an Oscar nomination.

She has a 10-year-old daughter from her previous marriage to production designer Clyde Klotz, which ended in 1996.

Anderson and Ozanne now live in London.
