A Yemeni man dropped dead when he read the big number on his mobile telephone bill, a police source in western Yemen said Saturday.

The man who was not identified, was stricken by shock when he read the bill for 28,000 Yemeni riyals, the equivalent of $123. He screamed, placed his hand on his heart and dropped dead.

His wife said he suffered from heart problems for many years, and has a single daughter who is engaged and spent hours talking to her fiancé on the phone.

The wife said she had to sell her jewelry to pay the previous phone bill of 13,000 riyals ($71), and when the last bill came she just hid it from her husband. He found it later, and the shock was too much for him.

The wife said she held her daughter and her fiancé responsible for her husband's death.
