Yough turf

There are usually six little Indians who dance to the beat of longtime Yough School District business manager Tony Lovato's liberal drum.

So, it was liberal business as usual at the Dec. 17 school board meeting ("Artificial turf contract gets OK from Yough board," Dec. 18). Yough will now spend $609,000 for artificial turf even though a majority of the students - including the athletes - are opposed, as would probably be a majority of the voters if it were put to a referendum vote.

Lovato's heapum-big, dazzling smoke signals of ''it'll cost more later,'' ''it's not taxpayers' money'' or ''we won't have to raise taxes" are always visible to the shortsighted.

The Sewickley Township Indians who own their tepees and pay all the taxes are too old and battle-worn to go on the warpath, and they're outnumbered. They think all of the deficit financing, the ever-rising school taxes for bottom-of-the-totem-pole SAT scores and a lot of youthful vandalism are a lot of buffalo dung.
