A Zelienople soldier has been killed on guard duty in Afghanistan.

The soldier's father, James Brown, said he received word of 20-year-old Pfc. Matthew Brown's death on Sunday. Matthew Brown was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. before he was deployed to Afghanistan on Dec. 31.

The Defense Department has not released information on the killing. But Brown says the Army told him his son was shot while on guard duty.

Brown says the Army did not provide many other details of his son's death, but he expects to receive more information soon.
