Today's salute to Santa's elves goes out to about 150 Saint Vincent college students, mostly education majors, who participated in the SVC Wraps for Kids program. This provision of seasonal cheer delivers gifts to about 300 needy children. The money comes from SVC Wraps for Kids fundraising along with donations managed by the Westmoreland County Children's Bureau advisory board. Students do the legwork, shopping and wrapping the gifts, which are delivered by Children's Bureau case workers. It's a learning experience, as well, for future teachers in their consideration of the welfare of others.

“We really do this event to help the Children's Bureau and also to help our students understand that they're going into a service profession.”

KATHLEEN BEINING

A professor of education at Saint Vincent College who coordinates SVC Wraps for Kids

“If you're a teacher, that's always the first thing on your mind, helping your kids in any way that you can.”

COURTNEY KLOOS

A Saint Vincent junior studying English and high school education

“The entire process has provided a tremendous amount of support to our agency in enhancing this program. They've really been a huge assistance for it.”

SHARA SAVEIKIS
