Let there be lights: Bless nonprofit, everyone
Ford City Renaissance Community Partnership — the nonprofit group responsible for Fantasy of Lights, unofficially known as light-up night, in the borough — has seen the haunting Spirit of Christmas Yet to Come. The vision it fears is of the Fantasy of Lights holiday celebration suffering because donations for lighting and other decorations fell short.
It’s a vision rooted in present reality. The group this year received a donation of holiday banners from Kittanning but has not been able to raise enough money to buy the brackets needed to hang them all along the streets of the borough. Sales of tickets for a major fundraiser — the Fabulous Hubcaps concert tonight at the 10th Street Station in Ford City — at the time of this writing are dismal enough to raise the possibility of losing money on the fundraiser.
The FCRCP is an all-volunteer team devoted to creating a true sense of community. It partners with others to bring family events to the community throughout the year, culminating this year on Nov. 29 with its signature Fantasy of Lights night. It needs the public’s help to make it a success.
You can help by showing up at the door at 6:30 p.m. and buying a $25 ticket to the Fabulous Hubcaps concert. Or you can simply write a check and send it to FCRCP, P.O. Box 124, Ford City, PA 16226. The donation is tax-deductible and for a good cause.
It’s not too late to do your part to ensure that the Fantasy of Lights, as well as the FCRCP, endures.
