Live Well, Clairton
Clairton residents are fortunate to have a strong focus on health in their city.
The City of Prayer and Clairton City School District recently joined the Live Well Allegheny campaign. In the Mon Valley, the City of Prayer’s residents join only Duquesne City School District as participants in the county wellness program, according to livewellallegheny.com.
The county program encourages healthy lifestyles with the development of trails, farmers markets, smoke-free buildings and other goals.
Clairton is well on its way to attaining better health for its youngsters, with the school district hosting an asthma camp as well as participating in a fresh fruit and vegetable program and the Safe Routes to School walking program. Upcoming district activities are a Live Well Allegheny Field Day and a “drink more water” initiative.
The health of community members who aren’t school age is a priority, too, with city activities including 5K runs/walks, bike and walking trails and healthy food options at community events.
Opportunities to improve their health, right in their own neighborhood, is an advantage for Clairton residents. We hope other Mon Valley communities become part of the county initiative, too.
