I f the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

— Corinthians.

• ISIS decapitates American journalist James Foley.

• ISIS marches 250 Syrian national soldiers, stripped to their underwear, into the desert and executes them. It later decapitates a Kurdish soldier.

• ISIS summarily executes religious opponents in Iraq and elsewhere as it expands its control in the Mideast.

• U.S. intelligence sources report a “significant increase” in terrorist “chatter” in advance of the 13th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

• FBI’s most recent domestic terrorism threat assessment makes no references to any Islamic terror threats.

• U.S. military forces are at a state of unreadiness not seen since before Sept. 11, 2001.

• High-ranking U.S. military officials sound the alarm over ISIS. “They are an imminent threat to every interest we have, whether it’s in Iraq or anywhere else,” says Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel. Only hours later, officials downplay their alarm.

• Great Britain raises its terrorism alert to “severe.” It fears an ISIS attack is “highly likely.”

We don’t have a strategy yet.

— Barack Obama, during a Thursday news conference.

May God help America.
