On the “Watch List”: The U.S. Steel headquarters deal. Lost in everyone slapping everyone else’s back over “saving” the steel giant’s HQ for Pittsburgh is anything resembling an accurate accounting of what this “privilege” will cost taxpayers. Well?
Lance: To horrid immigration enforcement. Illegal alien Eric Gonzalez-Huerta is charged in the death of a Hampton motorist Friday last on Route 28. A wheel flew off the trailer he was towing, instantly killing Robert Lofink, 75. Not only does Mr. Gonzalez-Huerta not have a driver’s license or insurance, he had been cited thrice previously in Kentucky for not having a license and once before for not having insurance. What an indictment of coddling illegals.
Laurel: To Mt. Lebanon. After years of indecision — and, in some cases, mind-numbing hand-wringing — it finally has approved a plan to cull its exploding deer herd. It had no choice; the public safety threat had reached critical heights.
Lance: To Allegheny County. Come the new year, felons won’t have to disclose their criminal history when applying for many county jobs. Sorry, but taxpayers have every right to know if crooks are in their employ.
Lance: To Brentwood. The council has agreed to pay suspended police Chief Robert Butelli nearly $200,000 to go away, plus medical benefits for three years. The borough alleges evidence room and cash mismanagement and improper personal use of a municipal vehicle. Well, if that’s the case, why are taxpayer pockets being picked to pay Mr. Butelli a premium? Who’s really guilty of mismanagement here?
