In a city with some of the country's strictest gun-control laws, this past July in Chicago was the deadliest in 10 years, with 65 firearm homicides, according to the Chicago Tribune. As of Aug. 2, Chicago's shooting victims totaled 2,395, compared with 2,988 victims for all of 2015. This, despite the city's “assault weapons” ban, stringent handgun permits, a “violence tax” and “micro-management of the number of gun stores in the city,” writes AWR Hawkins for Breitbart News. So who's protected? Not law-abiding citizens. ... On the experience-versus-arrogance front in the presidential race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, the Democrat aspirant reportedly completed no security briefings or courses on the proper management of classified information as secretary of State, according to The Daily Caller, based on legal filings. State Department officials previously said they couldn't find records certifying that Mrs. Clinton took required security courses and briefings. Some might say that's evident, given her email morass. But for someone seeking the nation's highest office, details matter. ... In social media news, a bar in Sussex, England, is blocking mobile phone signals to encourage that antiquated notion of face-to-face conversations, the BBC reports. In an emergency, the bar has a good, old-fashioned landline. Thus far, the Gin Tub reports only one complaint — from a patron who was still able to get a cellphone signal. Of course, people across the pond can simply turn off their phones, too.
