This letter is in response to Vandergrift Borough Council’s actions on the Hometown Hero banners ( “Move to pull non-veteran officer’s banner causes uproar in Vandergrift,” Sept. 5, TribLIVE). The operative words here are Hometown Hero.

I am very proud of our veterans. I am so thankful for all they do, keeping our country safe and free. I support any and all help they can be given. But to have Councilman James Rametta say putting up a flag honoring the late Vandergrift police Officer Bob Kirkland is an insult to veterans is a slap in the face to all the police officers and firefighters who risk their lives every day to protect our lives and homes.

I hope that this is settled and Kirkland’s flag is left in place — honoring all Hometown Heroes, as it states on the flag holder.
