The Seton Hill men's lacrosse team swept the ECAC Division II lacrosse weekly awards as the Griffins picked up all four award winners.

Senior attacker Marc Piche was named the offensive player of the week. Senior goalkeeper Brady Lawrence was named the defensive player of the week. Junior midfielder Anthony Peluso was named the specialist of the week, and freshman midfielder Shane Pettke was named the rookie of the week.

It is the first time the Griffins have swept the weekly ECAC awards.

Piche leads the Griffins in scoring through two games with 10 points. Lawrence helped the Griffins to a pair of wins to start the 2015 season. The senior goalkeeper allowed just six goals in 98 minutes (3.67) and made 13 saves for a .694 save percentage.

SHU lacrosse teams ranked nationally

Both of the Seton Hill lacrosse programs are receiving national recognition this week in Division II lacrosse national rankings.

The men jumped four spots in the latest USILA Division II Coaches Poll to ninth after improving to 2-0 with a 15-3 victory over Chestnut Hill on Sunday.

The Griffins also moved into the top 15 (14th) in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Division II rankings after not being ranked last week.

The women remain 19th in the newest IWLCA Division II Weekly Poll. This marks the first national rankings of the regular season.

Pitt-Greensburg honors 88 students at banquet

Pitt-Greensburg honored 88 student-athletes during its 2015 Scholar-Athlete Awards ceremony.

The awards presentation recognizes students for their outstanding academic achievement. Students must have earned a 3.0 GPA or higher during the previous semester in order to be recognized.

Former Pitt wrestler P.J. Tasser was the keynote speaker.

Tasser, who shared his experience as a student-athlete, emphasized three major points with the students.

“Everything you do, do with a purpose,” Tasser said. “Be comfortable with the uncomfortable,” and “don't forget to stop and smell the roses.”

Some of the athletes honored included: Anthony Bozzuto (Hempfield), baseball; Laura Krunszyinsky (Hempfield), cross country; Matthew Moyer (Hempfield), baseball; Martin Sholtis (Hempfield), golf; and Casey Hamilton (Hempfield), basketball and softball.
