Jassan Eubank left Edinboro confident in the notion that he was a big-time college football player, better than the Division II level. He just needed to find his own way to the next level.
“I always had the ability I just didn’t have enough exposure in high school,” said Eubank, who played at Greensburg Central Catholic. “This time I knew how to market myself and my coaches helped guide me here, too.”
“Here” is Nassau Community College in Garden City, N.Y., the place where Eubank transferred after his freshmen year at Edinboro.
As a sophomore, Eubank has been a key defensive player for Nassau, making 37 tackles, 10 for loss, through eight games.
His play, dominant at times, has attracted larger programs. Delaware State offered him a scholarship, the first Division I offer for the 6-foot-3, 235-pound defensive lineman.
Eubank, who also has 3.5 sacks and a fumble recovery this fall, will be at Nassau until May. Then, he envisions the culmination of his indirect yet suddenly promising route to the highest level of college football.
“On a division football program,” Eubank said when asked where he sees himself next football season. “I have a couple other D-1 schools recruiting me right now. I’m just going to wait it out and keep my options open.”
