Saint Vincent welcomes three transfers to football team
Saint Vincent football coach Ron Dolciato welcomed three transfers during the summer.
Two could play important roles this season and the third, a defensive lineman, is still working on transfer details.
Quarterback Shawn Rutherford, who transferred from Cal (Pa.), is battling Zavion Thompson for the starting job. He played high school football at University Prep.
Rutherford did not play at Cal.
Running back Malik Wells (Washington) transferred from Robert Morris. He was the Colonials leading rusher in 2016, gaining 292 yards on 83 carries in nine games. He also caught 10 passes for 76 yards.
The defensive lineman is Bo Gipson, a 2015 graduate of Aliquippa. Gipson is transferring in from NCAA Division I Delaware.
Dolciato is not sure if Gipson will be eligible this season.
