Slippery Rock lineman Gaviglia tabbed All-American
Slippery Rock rushed for more than 200 yards a game this season during its head-turning run to the PSAC Western Division title and NCAA quarterfinals.
Senior right tackle Steve Gaviglia played a key role up front and was lauded for his efforts Wednesday by being named a second-team Division II All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.
Gaviglia, a Seneca Valley product, is one of only 10 offensive linemen from 167 programs selected.
A three-time All-PSAC pick, Gaviglia started 25 consecutive games at right tackle for the Rock (11-3). The 6-foot-3, 285-pounder helped SRU pile up 2,838 yards and average 37.2 points.
Senior tailback Wes Hills ran for a school single-season record 1,714 yards.
Gaviglia also was an All-Super Region One selection.
