Westmoreland campus clippings: Local trio helps IUP football in rout of Millersville
A local trio impacted IUP’s victory in its football home opener.
IUP freshman defensive lineman Will Mayr (Penn-Trafford) had five tackles and a forced fumble, junior linebacker Nick Amendola (Norwin) added three tackles, and sophomore running back Tyler Balega (Derry) carried 11 times for 44 yards in a 41-7 win over Millersville.
Balega transferred from Seton Hill.
IUP is ranked No. 3 in this week’s Division II AFCA Top 25.
Senior Ben Pevarnik (Greensburg Central Catholic) is starting at right offensive guard for the Vulcans (0-2).
Junior linebacker Brett Zanotto (Franklin Regional) posted five tackles in a 23-21 victory over Valparaiso.
Senior defensive back Zach Hall (Norwin) made four tackles in the Golden Tornadoes’ 31-27 come-from-behind victory over Saint Vincent.
Redshirt sophomore Steve Petrick (Norwin) and freshman Anthony DelleFemine (Norwin) each made their first catches for the Colonials in a 22-19 win over Virginia State. Petrick, a tight end, transferred from Temple.
DelleFemine is back after rehabbing an injury.
Sophomore receiver Keith Kalp (Mt. Pleasant) caught a short touchdown pass, his second of the season, against Geneva.
Junior defensive back Logan Deri (Norwin) tied a team high with six tackles and added a sack, forced fumble and pass-breakup in a 37-34 victory against West Virginia Wesleyan.

Sophomore midfielder Christian Eckberg (Norwin) scored his second goal of the season, and senior keeper Chris Ralph (Franklin Regional) made three saves as the Lions blanked No. 24 John Carroll, 2-0.
Freshman defender Christina Czegan (Mt. Pleasant) has started all four games so far for the Vulcans (1-3). Czegan also plans to play softball in the spring.

Sophomore Emily Indof (Greensburg Salem) scored her second goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Bard in the Drew Tourament in Madison, N.J.
The Bobcats shut out Thiel in their home opener, 2-0, as freshman Tiffany Michalek and sophomore Allie Grimm scored goals.
Sophomore defender Keli Rosensteel (Greensburg Central Catholic) notched her first career goal as the Colonials lost to Howard, 3-1.
Junior forward Kristin Marsh tallied three goals for the first hat trick by an SVC women’s player since 2015 as the Bearcats topped La Roche, 4-2.
Junior forward Emily LoPresti scored two goals and redshirt junior Italia Biondi (Penn-Trafford) added another as the Griffins knocked off No. 12 East Stroudsburg, 3-2, in overtime. Seton Hill trailed 2-0 before rallying inside the final 11 minutes.
Lopresti, who scored 12 seconds into overtime, has 16 career game-winners.
Freshman Maura Skelley was named PAC Rookie of the Week. She won two matches, at No. 1 doubles with senior Lucy Bujdos and No. 3 singles, in a 6-3 victory over Juniata.
Senior 6-foot-3 middle hitter Laura Buchanan (Norwin) had 12 kills and three blocks in a loss to Kenyon.

Senior setter Lexi Irwin (Hempfield) put up her third double-double of the season with 30 assists and 12 digs in a 3-0 win over Saint Vincent. She added 36 assists, 10 digs and seven kills as the Lions downed Marietta, 3-1.
Sophomore Emma Dongilli was named to the all-tournament team at the Catholic University of America Tournament in Washington, D.C. She had a team-best 57 assists over four matches.
Senior outside hitter Morgan DeFloria (Hempfield) helped the Raiders end a 10-match losing streak against 14th-ranked Wheeling Jesuit. She tallied 11 kills and 14 digs in a 3-0 sweep.
DeFloria added 14 kills and 11 digs in a 3-0 victory over Fairmont State. Shippensburg (10-2) has won nine straight.
