Keith Dambrot packed his first recruiting class at Duquesne with big men, and he’s beginning to fill in the guards.
Kennedy Catholic senior Mateo Austin, a three-star guard, verbally committed to Duquesne on Thursday.
The 6-foot-4, 170-pound Austin listed a top four in August of Duquesne, Northwestern, Penn State and VCU. He had offers from a dozen schools, also including Pitt, West Virginia and Virginia. Rivals ranks him as the No. 48 shooting guard prespect in the Class of 2019.
Austin, a three-time PIAA champion at Kennedy Catholic, is the first recruit in Duquesne’s 2019 recruiting class. The Dukes’ five-man 2018 class included four players 6-foot-9 or taller, the biggest class in school history.
