Alle-Kiski Valley roundup: Deer Lakes boys soccer blanks Burrell

AJ Dorman scored two goals and had an assist to lead Deer Lakes (8-2-1, 7-2) to a 3-0 victory over Section 2-AA rival Burrell (3-7-1, 2-7-1).

Jesse Greyshock made seven saves for the Lancers. Devin Murray scored a goal. Michael Sullivan and Brendan Wangler had an assist.

Burrell goalie Donovan Russell stopped 11 shots.

Freeport 6, Karns City 0 — Bryce Hanby scored twice and added an assist as Freeport picked up a nonconference win. Hunter Hardin had a goal and an assist for the Yellowjackets (10-3, 7-2).

Fox Chapel 3, Brashear 0 — Ty Welty, Alex Cooper and Alex Marotte each scored a goal to help Fox Chapel (7-6, 6-4) blank Brashear (5-8, 3-6) in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Springdale 1, Eden Christian 0 — Nick Taliani’s first-half goal was enough for Springdale to pick up a Section 3-A victory over Eden Christian (2-11, 2-9). Mike Zolnierczyk made 13 saves for Springdale (9-2-1, 8-2-1).

Mt. Pleasant 6, Valley 1 — Josh Telles scored on a free kick for Valley’s lone goal in a Section 2-AA loss to Mt. Pleasant (11-2, 10-0). Gavin Shawfield made 10 saves for Valley (3-8-1, 1-7-1).

Trinity Christian 5, St. Joseph 4 — St. Joseph (4-9-1, 3-7) scored three second-half goals, and Daniel Fábregas had a hat trick, but the rally fell short in a Section 3-A loss to Trinity Christian (7-4, 5-4). Dominic Ferrante had three assists, and Lucas Willmer added a goal for the Spartans.

Vincentian Academy 1, Riverview 0 — Ethan Gales scored the lone goal for Vincentian Academy (7-6, 5-6) in a shutout of Section 3-A foe Riverview (9-4-1, 7-3-1).

Girls volleyball

Fox Chapel 3, Penn Hills 0 — Eras Yager had seven kills to lead Fox Chapel (4-7, 4-4) to a sweep of Penn Hills in Section 4-4A. Jessica Klein added four kills, and Tessa Friday had two aces.

Freeport 3, Burrell 0 — Ally DeJidas finished with 12 kills, 11 service points, two aces and three blocks as Freeport won in Section 3-AA. Claire Crytzer had eight service points, 15 digs and two aces for the Yellowjackets (11-2, 9-0).

Reghan Kennedy had 11 digs for Burrell (6-5, 3-5).

Deer Lakes 3, Apollo-Ridge 0 — Karns Hazlett had 12 service points, six aces and eight assists as Deer Lakes defeated Apollo-Ridge in Section 5-AA. Kaylee Sciubba had 11 kills and three blocks for the Lancers (7-2, 6-1), and Renee Robson finished with 12 service points and seven assists.

Greensburg Central Catholic 3, Leechburg 2 — Daesha Knight and Mackenzie Fello had 11 kills, but Leechburg (7-3, 6-3) dropped a five-set match against defending state champion Greensburg Central Catholic. Morgan Pierce had 10 aces, and Mikayla Lovelace added nine kills and seven blocks.

Ice Hockey

Norwin 7, Fox Chapel 6 — Fox Chapel could not hold onto a four-goal lead as they dropped the Section A contest to Norwin (1-0). Willie Doyle recorded three points for the Foxes, (0-1) as six players scored.
