NFL notebook: Griffin III makes brief appearance at Redskins practice
Robert Griffin III returned to Redskins practice Saturday for the first time since dislocating his ankle in the first quarter of a Sept. 14 game against the Jaguars.
The third-year quarterback joined teammates for stretching and agility drills. The Redskins don’t have a timetable for his return.
“He’s making progress,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. “He’s doing a great job working.”
Griffin has completed 31 of 40 passes for 305 yards this season.
Patriots waive WR Thompkins
The Patriots waived second-year wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins.
Thompkins, 26, was an undrafted free agent signee in 2013. He caught 32 passes for 519 yards and four touchdowns last season.
Thompkins was inactive for Monday’s loss to the Chiefs. He had six receptions for 53 yards this season.
Cowboys CB Claiborne on IR
Cowboys cornerback Morris Claiborne was put on injured reserve, four days after season-ending knee surgery.
Dallas signed linebacker Keith Smith from its practice squad, and he is likely to play in his second game this season Sunday against Houston.
Claiborne, the third-year defensive back, injured his knee in the first quarter of last Sunday’s 38-21 home victory over the New Orleans Saints. He was the sixth overall pick in the 2012 draft.
Giants cut rookie LB, add CB
The Giants waived rookie linebacker Dan Fox and signed cornerback Chandler Fenner from their practice squad.
Fox, who was waived in the final cutdown and then signed to the practice squad, was put on the 53-man roster Sept. 16. He played in two games on special teams but was not credited with any tackles.
Fenner was in training camp with the Giants and has been on the practice squad since the start of the season.
