• Wild defenseman Marco Scandella was suspended two games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for an illegal check to the head of Islanders forward Brock Nelson. Nelson was pursuing a puck in the Minnesota zone when Scandella hit him at 17:32 of the third period Tuesday night. Scandella was assessed a minor penalty for an illegal check to the head. Nelson remained in the game.
• Wild defenseman Keith Ballard was released from the hospital, diagnosed with multiple facial fractures and a concussion after being checked into the boards. He will be out indefinitely. Ballard was hurt Tuesday when he tried to turn away from Matt Martin as the Islanders left wing charged toward him. Ballard was driven face-forward into the dasher board, and his head bounced hard on the ice after he fell.
• Stars forward Ryan Garbutt will have a hearing Thursday morning with the department of player safety for a slew-footing incident with the Jets' DustinByfuglien during Tuesday's game.
• Devils center Travis Zajac and defenseman Adam Larsson were diagnosed with the mumps as the league continues to face the unusual outbreak of the vaccine-preventable disease. Though Zajac's diagnosis was confirmed only recently, he already is over the disease and is back to skating on his own, a team representative confirmed to ESPN.com.
• The Blue Jackets activated defenseman Cody Goloubef off injured reserve and loaned him on a conditioning assignment to their American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Mass.
• Former Red Wings coach Dave Lewis will be the new coach of Belarus. The Belarusian Ice Hockey Association said in a statement Wednesday that Lewis, 61, officially will be presented Monday.
