Norwin’s Pampus changes college soccer programs

Kendra Pampus was signed and ready to join the women’s soccer program at Indiana University in Bloomington when a coaching change sent her plans sideways.

Pampus, a senior at Norwin who only played on the varsity team there for two years, announced a new intention Friday with a verbal commitment to Youngstown State.

Indiana did not bring back coach Amy Berbary, prompting Pampus to reconsider the Hoosiers.

Pampus, who plays for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds club program, knew a familiar face at YSU: second-year head coach Brian Shrum, who lives in Belle Vernon.

“When I decided I wanted to look for other schools, YSU popped into my head because I had (Shrum) as a coach when I was young and I have always seen him around throughout the years in the soccer world,” Pampus said. “It is a building program right now and I feel I can make an immediate impact.”

Pampus, who initially committed to Indiana as a sophomore, played for Norwin as a freshman and sophomore.

She has played defender and midfielder throughout her career.
